It's all about execution.
Two times in my life I have pursued model building. When I was 8 years old and briefly, when I was 30. Here are some of my results from the more recent foray. I specialized mostly in German armored vehicles from World War II. Those designs, paint schemes were in my mind more adventurous for a scale model builder. These projects were about diverting myself from my normal creative career and doing something with my hands. They were about trying to execute flawless scale renderings of vehicles and making them as historically accurate as I could get them. My interest lasted about a year.
